3 Important Considerations When Choosing a WordPress Host

There are 455 million websites using WordPress today

As a beginner blogger one of the most important choices you’ll make is your WordPress host. When choosing a WordPress host there are 3 important considerations I wish I’d known that I want to share. Picking the best hosting company for a WordPress site isn’t as simple as a Google search. You’ll need to explore a little more to find a hosting company that’ll be the right price, have the type of support you need and special features.

When I started my first blog in 2016, I choose my hosting company off of the first Pinterest article to popup with a discount code. I didn’t know a thing about affiliate marketing at the time, otherwise I would have done more research or at least understood why the article didn’t mention anything negative about the company.

Needless to say that was a lesson and experience that I don’t want for you.

3 Things to Consider When Choosing a WordPress Host

When choosing a hosting provider for WordPress, knowing how much you can afford to spend is important. Yes, that may seem obvious but, let me explain. A lot of hosting companies offer “introductory prices” most new bloggers don’t realize that the pricing isn’t permanent. At the time of renewal your jaw might just drop at the difference in price. For some people a huge, unexpected shift in cost could mean shutting down their blog. Plus, it’s important to note that you’ll have other costs associated with starting a blog on WordPress like purchasing and registering your domain name, getting a theme and important plugins. You’ll also need to purchase and register your domain name.

You’ll also want to consider how often you’d like to pay. It’s most common to purchase web hosting for a year. However, there are companies that offer 5 years and my favorite hosting company even offers a monthly plan. As someone on a budget I’ve found that being on a monthly plan works great. New bloggers may enjoy it so they can test out blogging before spending hundreds of dollars.

Customer Service/Support

Choosing a WordPress hosting company with excellent support is your best choice. If you’re a new blogger you might have a lot of questions especially about WordPress. The hosting company you choose should be responsive and knowledgeable. You’ll want to also be aware of how they communicate with their customers. Do they offer phone support? Chat bots, live chats, emails? Are they 24/7 support? If you want to know how fast response times are before purchasing, try reaching out and see how long it takes to hear back.

The WordPress host I currently use has awesome customer service and support. They have free resources to teach you as well as use on your blog. Plus, they have fast and friendly customer service. Often times I’m talking with the same people about my questions, and it feels like talking with someone I know more than being a customer. They even have an awesome Facebook group where you can learn a lot more and met other bloggers.

Special Items Your WordPress Host Should Provide

Special Items an add-ons that can really skyrocket the cost of your hosting plan. These are things like automatic updates, daily back-ups, free WordPress installation, email, and security features. Your WordPress host may include some of these features in your plan but, if not research the features to see if you need them or want them.

My favorite special item is my custom email for this website.

WordPress Host I suggest for New Bloggers

I’ve used several WordPress hosts and I have two absolute favorites that I want to share. Both these companies are awesome suggestions for beginner bloggers.

Bluehost is an amazing hosting company that is popular with a lot of bloggers. They offer great introductory rates and have knowledgeable support. If you can afford more upfront than this is an excellent choice but, pay attention to your renewal price.

Lyrical Host

Lyrical Host is an exceptional hosting company. They offer monthly hosting plans, have customer resources, an active facebook group, an easy to join affiliate marketing program, and their customer support is super friendly and helpful. Use my discount code SHAYTHOMASBLOGS !
