Easy Money Saving Tips for Moms

Rent is high, food is high, gas is high. Would I be wrong to accuse the people in charge of being high too? Ehh, I won’t take it there although I do have my suspicions. Instead, I’ll share these easy money saving tips for moms. Money saving tips for anybody really.

The truth is, when I first got the itch to take control of my finances, I didn’t have the slightest clue where to start. As a matter of fact, I’m still learning and applying things to help me save money. So, I’ll be the first to say there isn’t a one size fits all on saving money or budgeting. However, there are a few things that can help. Most importantly you need to be willing and wanting to save. You need to know where you’re bleeding out those dollar bills and plug the hole.

For me, my biggest downfall when it comes to saving is eating out. A few years ago I went over my bank statements and was down right disgusted to find that we’d spent almost $800 dining out in a month. Ridiculous. Inexcusable. Embarassing. Clearly, saving money wasn’t a huge goal of mine.

However, budgeting and keeping as much cash in my pocket as possible has quickly risen to the most important thing in my life. And I’ve got a few tips to help not only myself but you too. Let’s check them out. Don’t forget to save and share this article.

Money Saving Tips: Cut down on your grocery bill

One of the easiest places to save money is on groceries. It’s easy to walk into a grocery store and over spend. Especially when we have bad grocery shopping habits like going to the store without a list and a hungry belly. One of my biggest tips to save money at the grocery store is to not shop hungry. That’s rule number 1 always. But, there are ways you can easily make the most of your grocery money. Check them out below.

Buy generic

Being brand loyal is not cost effective. Most of the time you’re paying for the label not the product. Generic (store-brand) goods are often equal quality to brand goods and much cheaper. My daughters can’t tell the difference between the cheaper more cost effective cereal and their favorite name brand. Plus, when I pop open a can of vegetables no one knows what the brand is. Save your coins, buy generic.

Shop different supermarkets

Doing your shopping at different supermarkets can really help your wallet. Your favorite grocery store might not have the best prices for what you need. It’s important to take a few minutes to browse through the weekly ads of different stores before shopping. This will help you identify where you’ll be getting the best deals.

Another tip is to shop at more affordable stores like Winco, Food 4 Less or Aldi. I won’t lie to you though all my produce comes from chains with higher quality (therefore more expensive) items. There are certain things I don’t skimp on and fresh fruit and vegetables is one of the.

As for everything else I definitely shop around.

Grocery shop alone

If you can, leave your kids at home. They’re a huge distraction and always want extra things. I’m a sucker for letting my kids load up the cart with stuff they find interest in. I needed rice during my last shopping trip and even though I was looking right at it I forgot it. Why? Because my children distracted me by wanting to try a pasta salad. I turned around to choose one we might all like, stuck it in my cart and left the aisle. When I got home I realized I didn’t have rice. Also, we have yet to try the pasta salad.

Use Ibotta or similar apps

I try to use Ibotta as much as possible and baby let me tell you I love it! Ibotta doesn’t really help me save money on groceries but, it does help me to earn cash back. I’ve used Ibotta for a long time now and have used it to cover bills or just to have a few extra dollars when I need it. However, this year my goal is to accumulate as much cashback as possible and use it to help me save for Christmas.

You can get $5 just for signing up for Ibotta with my link here

Money-Saving Tips: Auto Subscriptions and Cable

Cancel auto subscriptions

Auto subscriptions like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Prime Video, etc might not be expensive on their own but together the cost piles up quickly. Do a quick sweep of what you need and actually use then cancel the rest. Luckily, Hulu is paid for by our cell phone provider and Prime Video is included with our Prime membership.

Kick cable to the curb

Cable can be expensive, especially if you only watch a few channels. Not to mention most providers are always trying to entice you with a bundle of services you don’t need. Not too long ago I had a bundle which included telephone services but, I didn’t even own a home phone. It was a great deal to signup but, when the promotion ended I decided to keep only WiFi.

Not only is WiFi by itself much cheaper than cable, it’s all we really need.

Unsubscribe from promotional emails

What’s more tempting than a sale? Every single day peoples emails are loaded with sales pitches from varying companies. It’s tempting to see your favorite store is having a huge markdown. If you’re like me you click, you buy. Crush those alluring ads and save some money buy unsubscribing.
