How To Pick a Coloring Book Niche for Amazon KDP
Choosing a Coloring Book Niche
The first part of choosing a coloring book niche for Amazon KDP is simple. Most people go into it knowing exactly what they want to create. But, for others just trying to test the waters they need a little help deciding. My tip? Start with the closest major holiday like Christmas, Easter, Halloween, etc.
There might be a lot of competition in the holiday niche but, the truth is if you have a great looking product, know a little SEO, and do some market research you should be okay. Which brings me to my first resource BookBolt.Io.
Listen, BookBolt is a necessity. They’ve got an amazing little tool called KDP Spy that can help you pick a niche by researching what’s already available on Amazon and how it’s performing.
Using KDP Spy is super simple. All you need is a Bookbolt.io account

Once you’ve created your Bookbolt.io account you’ll need to download the KDP Spy extension for your web browser. Once you’ve got that set up simply go on over to Amazon and in the search bar type in what niche you’re thinking about creating a coloring book in. For this article let’s say you type in Christmas coloring book.
Once you enter your search, click on the KDP Spy extension to get started doing research for “Christmas Coloring Book”.
KDP Spy then shows you the results from the search. For every product they list you’ll find the ASIN, IMAGE, TITLE, PRICE, BSR, RATING, ESTIMATED SALES, ESTIMATED REVENUE, AUTHOR, PUBLICATION DATE.
You’ll have the ability to click on certain aspects and have your results listed in asecendin/descending order. I like to click on estimated revenue because I want to see the averages of what people are making with the keyword I choose. Secondly, I like to look at the publication date and then the BSR. I’ll explain why I do that in another article.
However, none of these things are more important than the other. This is just the order in which I prefer to look at things. Everything is important including the Image and the Title.
In another section KDP Spy also gives you additional keyword ideas and search volume. This is an excellent resource because I use the keywords KDP Spy generates in my coloring book title and description. Plus, the search volume lets you know how much it’s been searched in the past month which should help you decide if it’s trending and something you want to try to rank with.
Keeping with the Christmas Niche, now it’s time to talk about coloring book resources. This includes where to find your coloring book pages and how to actually create your coloring book for Amazon KDP

Where to Find Coloring Book Page Templates
There are several way to get the graphics you need to create a coloring book. You can draw your own coloring pages, hire someone else to do it for you or purchase coloring book page templates. I’m not the best drawer and I’m also not working with a lot of extra income to hire out an artist. So, that leaves finding and using coloring pages that have already been made that I think are nice. And my favorite place to do that is Creativefabrica.
What Makes Creativefabrica so great?
Well, they literally have thousands and thousands of great graphic designs for a huge range of niches. But, it’s not just great for finding coloring pages. They have a lot of resources you can purchase for other Amazon KDP Niches like logbooks, lined notebook pages, word searches and so much more. You really just have to check it out yourself. They have a large selection of Amazon KDP interiors.
Here are a few examples of coloring pages you may want to check out for Christmas Coloring Books.

How to Create Your Amazon KDP Coloring Book
There are a few ways you can create your Amazon KDP Coloring Book. I’ve used two different methods but for the sake of this article I’m going to share only one. And this method includes Bookbolt.io. I’m definitely standing on how amazing of a resource Bookbolt.io is. You can literally create Amazon KDP books with just a few clicks.
Using Bookbolt Studio to create your KDP coloring book is so simple. First you’ll have to tell it your book dimensions. This includes the title, whether you’ll be creating paperback or hard cover, bleed or no bleed and how many pages your book will be.
My favorite feature of BookBolt Studio is that they automatically create the dimensions for your book cover. Yes, you can absolutely download a template with the same information from Amazon KDP’s website but I notice a lot of people seem to have trouble with that. Using Bookbolt.io makes it super easy and with fewer steps!
Once Bookbolt Studio has generated all your pages you simply upload your coloring page file to the site and put the coloring pictures on the pages that you want. Then ofcourse you create your cover page. You can use the resources available to you through Bookbolt.io which is a large catalog of royalty-free images and the ability to add shapes and fonts.
After you’ve designed your brand new coloring book to sell on Amazon KDP all you have to do is download it and then upload it to the Amazon KDP site.
How to Upload Coloring Books to Amazon KDP
The coloring book you created using Bookbolt.io should have two files. One is the cover image and the other is your coloring book interior. Once you’ve gone to the Amazon KDP platform you’ll fill out all the details about your book. This includes title, author, description and more.
When you arrive at the step requiring you to upload your manuscript you upload your files in their respective places. Bookbolt.io makes it easy by identifying which file is what during your original download.
You’ll be required to review your uploads to ensure that everything fits the dimensions and looks good. If there are any errors Amazon KDP will let you know but, it’s still important to ensure that you yourself manually review each page to see that things are placed how you want them to be.
You’ll then get to see how much it’ll cost to create this book and choose a price you want to sell it for. I love this part because I get to see how much money I’ll make per sale and decide on a price that aligns with my financial desires.
Are Coloring Books for Amazon KDP Lucrative?
If you’re looking to create coloring books for Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, you might be wondering if or hoping that you can make a lot of money. While, I’ve only been using Amazon KDP for a few months I do have an opinion on the matter.
First, it’s important to know that making money either takes money or time. With the KDP platform, the easiest way to make your money will be through ADs but even then you have to truly understand your target audience and know how to appeal to them through ads.
Otherwise you have to use some elbow grease and use the free method of TIME. Research and create amazing products, use social media platforms to promote your products, research market trends and so much more. There’s a lot of work.
I’ve watched a lot of Youtube videos were people say they make thousands of dollars a month. Do I believe it? Yes but certainly not with just a few books under your belt. I think you’ll need a plethora of books for sale. I mean your catalog has to be large. That’s just my opinion.
