Would you believe I hadn’t heard of the Amazon KDP program until the day I signed up to join? Well, that’s the truth. While looking for graphics on Creativefabrica.com to use in my Etsy shop, I stumbled across ‘kdp interiors’. Curious, I googled KDP and realized this could be another avenue to making money online. I set up my account that day and now that I’ve received my first check I want to speak on the experience.
What is Amazon KDP?
Amazon KDP (Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing) is an amazing platform allowing authors to create and self-publish their own books. You don’t have to be a novelist, you can also create low content books and mid content books which is what I’m doing.
What are Low-Content Books?
Low-content books on Amazon KDP are usually notebooks or journals and have blank, lined or repetitive pages. The low-content books are super simple to make on platforms such as Canva or Bookbolt.
What are Mid-Content Books?
Mid-content books on Amazon KDP are books that aren’t repetitive like puzzles, mazes, coloring pages and so on. Although these books aren’t as easy to create a low-content books they are still simple to create using resources like creativefabrica.com.
How Much Can You Make on Amazon KDP?
If you go on Youtube, you’ll find plenty of people claiming to make thousands of dollars a month with KDP. They make it sound so simple and easy to make a lot of money but, it’s not. I’m not saying these people are liars. I’m saying there’s a lot more to the story than what you’re being told.
Do I believe you can make thousands of dollars a month with Amazon KDP? Heck yes but there are a lot of factors. If you pay attention a large amount of the people making these claims have quite a few books on the platform. I’m not talking 10 or 12. I mean in the tens and hundreds.
I’ve even heard of people who use AI to create 100 books a day!
If you’re slangin’ out that much product you’re bound to make a lot of money. However, if you’ve got a just a couple of items to sell it’ll be a lot harder to make as much money. Although not impossible.
I’ll be honest, the earning POTENTIAL on Amazon KDP is basically unlimited but, of course, there is a lot of work that comes with that.
How Much Does Amazon KDP pay? Is It Worth It?
To earn money on Amazon KDP you of course need a product for sale. If you want to make a lot of money there are a lot of factors to consider. To start, your paid based on your sales. As you create your listing on their platform, you’ll set a selling price. From that number Amazon KDP will tell you how much money they’ll be taking from the sale and what you’ll earn.
The amount of money Amazon takes from each product depends on the cost to create the product. A person with a 150 page paperback will have a production cost different than someone with a 500 page paperback. Therefore, the amount that Amazon charges will vary and how much you get paid depends on the price you set.
I have one book for sale on Amazon that makes a $1.95 profit although the book is sold for $7.99. I could change the amount I charge for the book to earn more. However, I’m trying to keep it competitive and since it is a low-content book I can’t justify a much higher price point.
The point is with $1.95 profit per sale, in order to makes thousand of dollars each month I’d need to make thousands of sales. Or I’d need a lot of different products for sale.

I’ve officially gotten my first check from Amazon KDP. And although the amount was only $1.95 I was super grateful and excited to see the deposit in my account.
The Amazon KDP programs pay you 60 days from the end of the earning month. In my case, I started on the platform in July and made a sale in July. At the end of the month they calculate my sales for July and paid me 60 days later at the end of September.
Getting Paid is super simple. You set up all your information when you create your KDP account and Amazon automatically does the rest.
Is Amazon KDP Worth It?
I’ve only been on the platform a few months and if I choose to listen to Youtube Gurus who boast high numbers I’d be disappointed. I’d even say that Amazon KDP is over staturated and there’s no money to make but, that’s a lie. The Amazon KDP platform is absolutely still worth it in 2023. Is it easy? Not as it used to be I’m sure but, the potential to make money is still there.
