After reading the wildly hyped First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston, I was very excited to get my hands on Anatomy of an Abili. I enjoyed Ashley Elstons writing style and ability to create a twist. I figured Anatomy of an Alibi would be an easy read and just as fun and entertaining as First Lie Wins.
It took me nearly 5 days to finish this book, which let me say is by no means a long time but, it is quite a stretch for me. I found myself struggling to get started with the story. I could muster a few pages but then I’d be putting the book down looking for something else to occupy my time.
Eventually, as I felt a cold settling in I grabbed the book and forced myself to focus while I lounged around in bed. Once, I got into the groove of the book I was immediately locked in to what was going on and wanting answers. There were parts that were pretty obvious (which I mention on Fable) and parts that were down right shocking. The way this story played out deserves a round of applause because I could not have guessed it.
SUMMARY
Aubrey and Camille are living very different lives. Aubrey -orphaned as a teenager after both her parents die in a fatal car accident lives in a house full of criminals and works at a bar struggling to survive. Haunted by the desire to find the truth about her parents accident Aubrey finds herself on the hunt for answers. Camille – wife of successful Attorney Ben is living a luxurious life but, there’s one problem she doesn’t want to be married to Ben anymore. She can’t leave without losing it all unless she can prove he’s broken their prenuptial agreement. She begins to hunt for anything Ben may have done when she stumbles upon Aubrey and the two hatch a plan. Aubrey will spend a day pretending to be Camille, while Camille spies on Ben seeking answers.
There’s just one thing – Ben is found dead and it’s estimated that he died during the charade Camille and Aubrey pulled. Whose is innocent, who is guilty? The race to find Bens killer and finally get to the truth about Aubreys parents fatal car crash is on.
With lots of twists and turns, Anatomy of an Alibi will keep you on your toes guessing what’s next until the very last page.

Would I recommend this book?
Anatomy of an Alibi is definitely a book that I would recommend to people who loves thrillers and mysteries. Our main female characters Aubrey and Camille are both likeable and easy to relate to. We can easily understand their struggle and what drives them to do the things they are doing in this book.
What I liked about this book
It’s an easy to follow story with exciting plot twists and it doesn’t feel too far fetched. This book shows us how far people will go to get what they want. In this case, for Camille it’s a divorce and for Aubrey it’s simply the truth about what happened to her parents.
The sense of community both Aubrey and Camille come from are vastly different. While Camille does get to enjoy the luxury of money, she’s under two ruling thumbs -her husband and her father. The vibe is definitely power and control. Both of these men make major decisions in Camille’s life and she’s expected to smile and step in line. The community she’s apart of aka her family does its best to hid and protect its secrets at the expense of anyone that might threaten them. The problem is everyone doesn’t come together for one cause, they’re lots of secrecy and backstabbing and even less trust. Where as Aubreys community which is just her housemates, has a true sense of family. The all band together to protect Aubrey, to guide her to making the best decisions, they’re working together for a common cause and there’s openness and honesty even if they aren’t moving exactly legal. Aubrey can trust her house mates.

This book does a good jobs subtly highlighting the differences between Aubrey and Camille while also showing just how much they aren’t so different after all. They’re both underdogs in their own way and share a common enemy. I very much enjoyed that the author didn’t have me rooting for one character more than the other. I wanted them both to get what they were after. I didn’t know who I wanted to be the bad guy more and once the bad guy was revealed I was shocked.
I also enjoy a book where the twist is not even close to anything I would have guessed. This book does a great job of holding onto the truth until the very end. Everything was wrapped up perfectly and settled in a way that didn’t feel too unrealistic.
Overall
Once I got started on this book it was overall a very entertaining story. I blew through the pages once the story got to a point where I had too many questions I needed answers to. I gave this an easy 4 stars. This is my second book by Ashley Elston this year and I must say she might just become an auto-read author for me.
