There was a lot of hype over First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston so it went on my TBR but, time passed and I forgot all about it. I couldn’t tell you the synopsis or anything. What got me to actually digging in was that I purchased Anatomy of An Alibi (also by Ashley Elston) while I was a Barnes and Noble and saw these books shared the same author. I figured before I dig into the newest book under Ashley Elston’s belt I should read the first. Please note, these books aren’t related.
Anyways. I finished this book in two days. Not just because I have reading goals to hit and I squeezed this read in so I could get to Anatomy of an Alibi but, also because I yearned to finished the story so deeply I simply could not put the book down. I absolutely loved this book. It isn’t a five star read but it was very enjoyable.
When I put a book on my TBR I don’t go back and read the synopsis again before I start the book. I trust I added it to my list for a reason and dive in. Needless to say I didn’t remember what this book was even about. Which of course always adds an extra little razzle dazzle for my reading experience.
What I liked about this book
What I liked about this book was that the storyline and plot was easy to follow and I very clearly understood who the bad guy was. While when it came to other characters I felt like everything was gray. I wasn’t sure if people were the good guys or the bad guys, if there was any double crossing going on or what. I liked that even though I thought certain things were obvious, they weren’t all that obvious.
There were a couple of instances of inner dialogue that I enjoyed. The book had a tab bit of cussing and I love some old fashioned cussing. So, it was definitely a win for me. I liked that nothing seemed too unbelievable.

What I didn’t like about this book
I didn’t like that if felt like Mr. Smith had an omnipresence and he was everywhere all the time able to see every move and hold so much power over people -especially to be bought down so easy (and yes i know this is a spoiler i’m sorry). I wasn’t satisfied with him being identified, I wanted to know his background, how far his network stretched, why he wanted Ryans company? There were so many questions I had that were left unanswered.
There wasn’t much to not like about this book. It was well written and easy to digest.
Thanks for reading this review. Moving forward, I plan to continue to write reviews and adjust the way in which I do so. I’m finding what works for me, what you all enjoy and how to create good reviews without spoiling too much although I know sometimes that’s not possible.
